OAKLAND — The Griswold Tigers wrestling team finished in third place at the 1A Sectional Tournament at Riverside High School Monday.
Griswold finished with a team score of 144 points, just four behind Riverside for second place. Underwood won the Sectional meet with a score of 252 points. East Mills also competed at the meet, finishing in eighth with a score of 76 points.
The Tigers had two sectional champions and three runner-ups at the meet. Zach Vance (126-lbs.) and Tanner Potter (132-lbs.) were champions in their respective weight classes.
Runner-ups for Griswold were Hadley Ogg (106-lbs.), Austin Dollen (120-lbs.) and Xavier Olivo (170-lbs.). Jake Steinbeck (220-lbs.) missed out on making it to Districts as Mark Hall of Southwest Iowa schools took second place.
East Mills had one sectional champion in David Howell at 285-pounds. Lane Stortenbecker (132-lbs.) and Colby Jennings (152-lbs.) were runner-ups for the Wolverines.
The Sectional was originally suppose to take place Saturday, but a winter storm that hit Southwest Iowa caused it to be postponed until Monday.
Districts will take place Saturday at Underwood High School. The Tournament will start at noon.
