A farewell reception to take place July 10 at the Grand Theater in honor of Shelley Becker has now been canceled. She will be moving this week and therefore could not attend the reception. There are no plans to reschedule.

Becker is the founding president of Red Oak Grand Theater, Inc. The Red Oak Grand Theater provided entertainment to the area for nearly 75 years until it closed in 2009.  In July 2010, local volunteers organized to reopen the Grand Theater as a non-profit organization. Becker was instrumental in leading this group and continued to serve as president of the theater board of directors. During her tenure, the Grand Theater served more than 28,300 patrons since reopening Sept. 3, 2010.

Shelley is moving to Hope Mills, N.C., as a family and consumer science teacher with South View High School. For the last three years, she  taught business, family and consumer science classes and coached girls basketball at Red Oak High School.
