As a young adult born and raised in southeast Iowa, I took a special interest in the recent contest for the 2011 CNN Hero of the Year. One of the top 10 nominees had been a family friend while she lived in Fairfield, Iowa, about a decade ago. On December 11, 2011, when CNN acclaimed Robin Lim as the number one “Hero of the Year,” I rejoiced, and felt honored to have known this remarkable woman.
