Helen Elaine (Brannan) Miller, 63, of Omaha, died July 13, 2012, at Omaha’s Lakeside Hospital after a short hospitalization.
Helen was born to the late Irma and Robert Brannan Nov. 12, 1948, in Villisca. They farmed southwest of Villisca and she attended Villisca schools where she was active in drama, speech and music, and worked for the high school paper and yearbook. Following graduation in 1966, she attended Northwest Missouri State College and Iowa State University.
Helen worked as a State of Nebraska Social Worker in Omaha for many years and described her employment there as the ‘best job ever,” as she was able to help people every day. She also worked for the Quest Dex yellow pages for several years.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Laura Miller, of Phoenix; son, David (Vessna) Miller, of Phoenix; two grandchildren, Patrick and Magdalene Miller, of Phoenix; three brothers, Maury (Judy), of Enid, Okla., Bob (Nancy), of Omaha, and Jim (Cheryl), of Central, S.C.; long time companion, Joe Lake, of Omaha; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many, many friends.
A memorial service and luncheon will take place at the Villisca Community Center at 11 a.m., Aug. 4. The service will be led by Rev. Sandy Wainwright from the Presbyterian Church of Villisca. The Community Center is located at 207 S. 3rd Ave., in Villisca (across the street from the northwest corner of the city park in the middle of town). Graveside service will follow at the North Page Cemetery. She will be buried beside her parents.
