Lois Rusk Lane, 93, of Villisca, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at her home.

Lois Estelene (Dotson) Rusk Lane was born to John and Lotta Dotson Nov. 14, 1918, at home in Adams County. She was their only daughter.

Lois graduated with a BA from Wayne State Teachers College in 1940, and obtained her Master’s Degree in 1967 from LaVerne State College in California. She began her career teaching country school in Carbon and finished it as the teaching principal of the last one-room school in Southern California, which she then turned into a historical site. Many times, she used her musical plays to teach history.

Lois married Robert Austin Rusk in 1943. To this union two daughters were born, Mary Lynn and Nancy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Robert Rusk and Cameron Lane; brothers, Harold (Stacia) Dotson, Russell (Marjorie) Dotson and Don (Laura) Dotson; son-in-law, Roger Poston; grandson, James Wyatt; brothers-in-law, Tom Rusk and Bob Boomer; niece, Linda Boomer Iliff; and nephew, Jim Rusk.

Surviving Lois are her daughters, Mary Lynn Poston and Nancy (Dr. James F.) Wyatt, both of Villisca; grandchildren, Jason R. (Darci) Poston, of Villisca, Whitney (Scott) Bogdanski, of Des Moines, Justin R. (Krystal) Wyatt, of Glenwood, Muriel R. (Aaron) Jepsen, of Santa Ana, Calif., and Austin R. Wyatt and Jordan R. Wyatt, both of Omaha; great-grandchildren, Hunter, Karsyn and Anistyn Poston, Ada-Lynn and Cooper Bogdanski, and Ethan and Dylan Wyatt; sisters-in-law, Fredyne Rusk, of Villisca, and Frannie Rusk Boomer, of Canton, Mich.

Funeral services took place at the Villisca United Methodist Church Monday, Feb. 6, with burial in the Villisca Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Lois E. Lane Educational Fund. Wolfe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
