Phyllis C. Johnson, 83, of Ottumwa, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
Phyllis was born to Edward and Thelma Buxton Bethke July 21, 1928, in Edgeley, N.D. She married Dean C. Johnson; they later divorced.
Phyllis spent 25 years with USDA, retiring in 1989 as County Executive Director of ASCS office in Wapello County. She was active in NARFE as State Federation Secretary, District Officer, Ottumwa Chapter Secretary and President. She also served on the Board of Directors of River Community Credit Union and was a member of the Red Hat Society.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents and ex-husband.
Survivors include one son, Edward D. (Mary) Johnson, of Omaha; two daughters, Jane D. (John) Stifle, of Fridley, Minn., and Janette G. (Donald) White, of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Connell, of Sarasota, Fla.; and special friend, Jim Heasley, of Ottumwa.
Per her request, her body has been cremated and no services are planned.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the NARFE Alzheimer’s Association in care of Robertson-Jay Funeral Home, 220 N. Court St., Ottumwa, Iowa, 52501.
