RED OAK — The annual Entertainment in the Park series begins Thursday Aug. 5 in Red Oak’s downtown Fountain Square Park.
Sponsored by the Red Oak Chamber and Industry Association, this free series allows citizens of Red Oak and surrounding communities to bring their lawn chairs and families and enjoy an evening of food and entertainment.
In case of inclement weather, activities may be held under the Chautauqua Pavilion.
Debuting Thursday, Aug. 5, the series starts with “Arts in the Park” from 4-7 p.m.
Numerous Montgomery County artists will display, demonstrate and even sell their artistic wares at various booths located throughout the park.
The Red Oak Senior Center will serve food as well as pie and ice cream during the evening.
The Touchstone Arts Council invites everyone to display their own artistic talent in a sidewalk chalk art contest. The sidewalk chalk art contest is open to kids and adults; individuals and families; professionals and those who just simply want to draw on the sidewalk.
Entertainment will also be provided on the stage beginning at 6 p.m.
“Family Fun Night” is the theme for Aug. 12.
From 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., the Red Oak Junior Class will sponsor a mini-carnival and bounce house, with proceeds going to the 2011 After Prom. The Red Oak Masonic Lodge will serve food during the evening, while Nishna Production sells their Shaved Ice. The Red Oak Grand Theatre group will also be providing popcorn as well as information about reopening the Grand Theatre in Red Oak.
Entertainment will be provided on the stage beginning at 6 p.m.
A Community Pep Rally is scheduled for Aug. 19, starting at 6 p.m. The Red Oak High School fall sports teams will be featured, while the First Christian Church serves food, starting at 5 p.m.
RMPKA will sponsor a dessert fundraiser with proceeds assisting Dakota McMann and Colin Wise in attending the Youth Leadership Conference in Washington D.C.
The series will be postponed the week of Aug. 26, as the circus will be in town, but will resume Sept. 2 with the popular “Thanks with Franks” program.
Anyone who shops at a Red Oak business from Aug. 26-Sept. 2 can bring the receipt and exchange it for a free hot dog meal beginning at 5 p.m.
Entertainment will again be onstage starting at 6 p.m.
Also each week, the Red Oak Farmer Market will be available from 4-6 p.m.
