The Montgomery County Family YMCA was notified that they are the recipients of $5,000 to the YMCA’s Endowment Fund from the Josephine R. Mitchell Trust. Walter Russell, Co-Trustee of Ms. Mitchell’s Trust said that “Josephine was born and grew up on the family farm southwest of Emerson Iowa, graduated from Red Oak High School and taught school in Glenwood and Villisca in the 1930s and 40s. Although she lived most of her adult life in Los Angeles California, upon her retirement from American Airlines she returned to Red Oak where she has lived the last 25 years”.

Josephine believed in the importance of the YMCA to the community and made provisions for a monetary contribution upon her death.

The YMCA is very grateful to Josephine for thinking of us in her estate plans and her $5,000 contribution becomes $7,500 because of generosity of Charles & Norma Wilson’s of Red Oak, Iowa who desire to keep the YMCA available for generations to come and their willingness to match each gift to the YMCA’s “Our Future Is In Your Hands” Endowment Enlargement Campaign that is currently taking place to plan for long term maintenance and repair needs to pass the YMCA movement on to the next generation throughout southwest Iowa. The Wilson increase each designated campaign gift by 50% to the current YMCA endowment campaign fund. The campaign goal set in the fall of 2008 was $1.5 million dollars and currently the YMCA has raised $400,000 for the endowment drive. The campaign volunteers are working on many phases of the campaign to involve as many friends and supporters of the Montgomery County Family YMCA. The campaign will run till Dec. 31, 2011 or until reaching the campaign goal.
