  • Merlin Magneson

    The family of Merlin Magneson would like to celebrate his 80th birthday on Thursday, Feb. 16, with a card shower.

    Merlin is originally from the Stanton area. He retired as a self-employed accountant serving Southwest Iowa and based in Clarinda.

  • Thorp and Thornburg

    Amanda Thornburg and Nicolas Thorp, together with their families, are pleased to announce their engagement.

    Amanda is the daughter of Tom and Bette Thornburg, of Marion. Her grandparents  include Marilyn and the late Cliff Crowell, as well as Dennis and Janis Thornburg, all of Red Oak.

    Nic is the son of Shari Miller, of Mt. Vernon, and Kevin and Carrie Thorp, of Marion.

    The couple graduated from Linn-Mar High School in Marion.

  • Dale and Eileen Jones

    Recently, a family celebration hosted by Roger and Kristie Jones, of Westboro, Mo., and Marion and Connie Jones, of Drummond, Mont., honoring Dale and Eileen Jones on their 71st anniversary took place at the Emerson Community Center. Family members from Idaho, Iowa, Missouri and Montana attended.

    Dale and Eileen were married Jan. 2, 1941, in Council Bluffs, and farmed in Mills and Montgomery counties. They have seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

    The children of Don Paul, of Red Oak, would like to request a card shower in honor of his 70th birthday Feb. 22.

    Don taught and coached in the Red Oak School District for many years.

  • Burkhiser and Goodell

    Greg and Kriss Goodell, of Shenandoah, are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Dawn, to Zebulon Carl Burkhiser, son of Robert and Mary Burkhiser, of Farragut.

    Jenny is a 2006 graduate of Bellevue University and is currently pursuing her Masters of Communications degree from the University of Nebraska in Omaha. She is also employed as Opera-tions Manager at KYFR Radio in Shenandoah and as the Assistant Regional Manager for the Midwest Region of Family Stations, Inc.

  • Myers and Taylor

    Lauren Taylor and Joel Myers, both of Austin, Texas,  are pleased to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding.

    Lauren is the daughter of Lori Honeycutt, of Emery, Texas, and Douglas Taylor, of Snowball, Ark.

    Joel is the son of Allan and Jane Myers, of Red Oak. He is the grandson of Donna Erritt and Richard and Pat Myers, all of Red Oak.

    Joel and Lauren are both veterans of the United States Army and met during their deployment to Iraq in 2009.

  • Kazmerzak and Ramthun

    Carly Kazmerzak and Jared Ramthun are pleased to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding.

    Carly is the daughter of Deb and Richard Kazmerzak, of Indianola, and granddaughter of Larry and Janice Kazmerzak, of Red Oak.

    Jared is the son of Mark and Charlene Ramthun, of Denison.

    Carly graduated from Indianola High School in 2007. Recently, she completed a music therapy internship in San Diego, Calif., and graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.M. in Music Therapy.

  • Paul and Harriet Olson

    The children of Paul and Harriet Olson are hosting an Open House in honor of their 50th anniversary Saturday, Jan. 21, at the Senior Center in Stanton, from 1-4 p.m.

    The couple was married Dec. 29, 1961, in Stanton.

    Their children are Michael and Tami Olson, of Bloomington, Minn., Steve and Stephanie Schaben, of Elkhorn, Neb., and Joe and Cindy Chapman, of Council Bluffs.
