  • Russ Orr, 59

    Robert Russell “Russ” Orr, 59, of Lincoln, Neb., died May 8, 2012.

    Russ Orr was born to Robert Hanscom and JoAnn Woods April 19, 1953, in Red Oak.

    He was a lifelong, avid New Orleans Saints fan, enjoyed golfing and was a John Wayne collector.

    He was preceded in death by his fathers, two brothers, one sister and one brother-in-law.

  • Dorothy Putnam, 89

    Dorothy D. Putnam, 89, of Griswold, died May 12, 2012, at the Griswold Care Center.

    Dorothy Dean Putnam was born to Russell Edward and Mildred Emiline (Westerlund) DeWitt April 19, 1923, near Elliott.

    She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Max.

    Dorothy is survived by her husband, Leon, of Griswold; her children, Jerry Putnam, of Griswold, Sharon Oles, of Griswold, Leon L. Putnam, Jr., of Peoria, Ariz., Judy Robberts, of Lyman, and Debbie McAfee, of St. Petersburg, Fla,; 11 grandchildren; and many great and great-great-grandchildren.

  • Dolores Marsh, 89

    Dolores Marsh, 89, of Stockton, Calif., formerly of Red Oak, died Monday, April 16, 2012, in Lodi.

    Genevieve Dolores (Houde) Marsh was born to Zepherin Houde and Leah (LeSage) Houde Aug. 1, 1922, in Kankakee, Ill. Known always as Dolores, she was the youngest of three sisters. The eldest was Mary Jane and the middle sister was Geraldine. When her mother remarried some years after Dolores’ father passed away, another sister, Yolanda, joined the family.

  • Betty Hill, 90

    Betty M. Hill, 90, of Red Oak, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.  

    Betty Maxine Hill was born to Henry and Emma (Stevenson) Bates Oct. 6, 1921, in Hancock. When Betty was a young girl, the family moved to Elliott where she graduated high school. Upon her graduation, Betty worked for the Red Oak Greenhouse.

  • Ted Gustafson, 69

    Ted Gustafson, 69, of Red Oak, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

    Theodore “Ted” Richard Gustafson was born to Ernest and Olga (Peterson) Gustafson Dec. 8, 1942, in Storm Lake. Ted was raised in the Albert City area and graduated from high school in 1960. He attended college in Omaha.

  • Elaine Deitchler, 91

    Elaine Janette Deitchler, 91, of Henderson, died April 29, 2012, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

    Elaine was born the oldest of four daughters to Lillian Emma (Costine) and Walter Thomas Ruberg Feb. 11, 1921, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She grew up in Council Bluffs, where she attended school.

  • Cal Steffen, 88

    Calvin “Cal” Steffen, 88, of Griswold, died Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha.

    Calvin Gail Steffen was born to William and Emma Louise (Schreiber) Steffen July 19, 1923, on a farm south of Cumberland.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry Gail; an infant son; and siblings, Arlen, Donald and Max Steffen, Bernice Rodgers and Phyllis Jean Knuckles.

  • Gail Mirts, 47

    Gail A. Mirts, 47, of Red Oak, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.  

    Gail Ann Mirts was born to Donald and Phyllis (Pegel) Norris July 19, 1964, in Council Bluffs.  

    Preceding her in death was her father, Donald Norris, and brother, Christopher Norris.  

  • Millie Chute

    Mildred "Millie" Chute, of Ankeny, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Sunny View Care Center.

    Millie was born in Carroll to Rev. and Mrs. George Gundel, of Glidden.

    She married Donald Thede in 1955. From this marriage they had four children.

    Millie worked as the church secretary for 10 years at St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Ankeny Press Citizen as a staff writer, Manpower, Office Mates, Team Mates, Kelly Services and the Crossroads Area Agency on Aging.

    Millie married Michael Chute, of Red Oak, in 1988.

  • Neva Peters, 95

    Neva L. Peters, 95, of Red Oak, passed away Thursday, April 19, 2012, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

    Neva L. Peters was born to Albert and Maymie (Segelke) Mehrens Oct. 7, 1916, in Calumet.

    Neva is preceded in death by her husband; an infant son; her parents; and two sisters, Mary Ann Fiddelke and Mildred Abrahamson.

    She is survived by her children, Terry Peters, of Kingman, Ariz., and Sherri Clark, of Red Oak; three granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.
