Olson attempted to bring it back onto the roadway and lost control on the icy roadway. The vehicle slid across the road into the north ditch. The back passenger tire came off the vehicle as it continued to slide through a fence, coming to a stop in a field. There were no citations issued. The vehicle occupants were taken by private transportation to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for possible injuries. The Sheriff’s office was assisted by Villisca Fire and Rescue, Red Oak Rescue, Adams County Sheriff’s office and Iowa State Patrol.
  • On Jan. 13 at 2:46 p.m., officers of the Red Oak Police Department were called to the intersection of W. Walnut Street and N. Broadway for a two-vehicle accident. Upon arrival and investigation, officers determined a 1990 Chevy pickup, driven by Chase Rea, 16, Red Oak, was westbound on W. Walnut and stopped at the stop sign. Rea proceeded through the intersection towards Red Oak Plaza. A 2011 Toyota RAV4, driven by Morgan Walford, 17, Red Oak, was southbound on Broadway and struck Rea’s pickup. Rea had failed to yield the right-of-way from a stop sign, therefore causing the accident. There were no injuries. The estimated damage to Walford’s vehicle is $3,500 and the estimated damage to Rea’s vehicle is $1,600. Rea was issued a citation for failure to yield to right-of-way.
