The Red Oak wrestling team celebrated the 2015-2016 season with its end-of-the- year banquet Tuesday.

Head coach Tiegen Podliska started by reviewing the season, which included talking about program goals and the eight dual wins the Tigers achieved last season.

Assistant coach Nathan Rouse then gave an overview of the junior varsity season, and gave awards to the junior varsity team.

James Kelly won the most- improved award and Isaac Bower won the O.W. Award. Clay Selberg and Jordyn Cornelison were also honored for being Hawkeye-10 Conference All-Academic team members.

For the varsity team, the M.V.W. Award went to Clay Selberg, the Heart of the Tiger Award went to Alec Selberg and the Most Improved Award went to Colin Bruce.

After that there was a presentation of senior letters, pins and plaques which  went to Selberg and Bruce, while underclassmen awards were given as well.

Podiska issued a challenge to next year’s team. He challenged them to not dwell on their success to become complacent.

“The idea is that 95 percent of people do what they have to do to be successful, only to lose those habits once they have achieved their goals,” he said. “It’s that other 5 percent to do every little thing, every day, to protect all that they’ve worked for.”

Individual stat leaders were also recognized during the ceremony.

Alec Selberg led the team in take-downs with 82, Thomas Bentley led the team with 24 reversals, Clay Selberg led the team with 38 escapes.

Thomas Bentley led the team with 17 two-point near falls, Cam Vanderhoof led the team with three-point near falls with 21 and Clay Selberg had 28 pins.

The best record went to Alec Selberg at 32-14 and Clay Selberg had 209 points.

The ceremony ended with Podiska reminding his team of offseason events.

There will be a freestyle wrestling tournament in Creston April 16 and sessions at the regional training center April 18, 25 and May 2.

The team camp will be July 17-20.
