Gov. Reynolds released the following statement after the Iowa House Judiciary Committee unanimously passed, House Study Bill 68, a joint resolution proposing an amendment to the Iowa Constitution to restore the voting rights of felons:
“Today’s unanimous vote by the House Judiciary Committee sends a strong message in favor of second chances and forgiveness for felons. It highlights the broad commitment of supporters for a constitutional amendment and another step forward to give Iowans a vote on this issue.”
The House Judiciary Committee vote means that the Governor’s proposed constitutional amendment advanced through the first funnel and is now eligible for consideration on the House Floor.
