Sports Calendar: District Baseball Quarterfinal Preview

-A A +A

Three teams remain in the district baseball tournament. All three are in Class 1A, but in different districts. The quarterfinals get going Tuesday, so here's a look at all the teams in the area.

Class 1A District 14

The lone area team in this district is the Stanton Vikings. They begin their postseason Tuesday evening when they go to Lenox to take on the Bedford Bulldogs.

Stanton (9-8) enters the district tournament having won four of their last five, including two straight. Bedford (11-11) ended the season by winning three straight games.

The two teams have met once this season. Bedford won 15-0 on June 18 in three innings. Stanton was held to three hits in that game.

Stanton will look toward top hitter Brady Johnson to get the team going. Johnson leads the team in hitting with a batting line of .426/.494/.662.

The second game of the doubleheader in Lenox features Lenox against East Union.

The winner of Stanton/Bedford and Lenox/East Union will face off Thursday at 7 p.m. in Lenox in the semifinals.

Martensdale-St. Marys is the other quarterfinal site as it features Murray playing Lamoni at 5 p.m. and Martensdale-St. Marys against Mount Ayr at 7 p.m.

The winners face off at 7 p.m. Thursday in Martensdale.
