Grant hosting Labor Day Country Music Festival Sept. 5

GRANT — With the help of Jim Wymore, the Grant Community Preservationists (GCP) will host its first Labor Day Country Music Festival, Mon., Sept. 5 in the Grant Park. 

Entertainment will begin at 1 p.m. with a $5 gate fee for all persons 12 and over; children under 12 attend free.

In addition to the entertainment, GCP will have a food stand open serving:  sloppy joes, chips, homemade pie and bars, and soda.  Coffee, iced tea and water will be available free of charge.  

Attendees should bring lawn chairs; children are welcome. The park offers swings, a tire tunnel and tetherball to play. Children may also get their faces painted or purchase bubbles to blow.  

Proceeds of this event support GCP’s work to maintain the Grant Park and to restore the Grant Masonic Lodge. 

In the event of rain, the event will be held on Sun., Sept. 11.

The Grant Community Preservationists was formed to help maintain Grant and its unique historic character.  Designated in October 2003, the Grant Commercial Historic District is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Organizers are hoping to host the event on an annual basis.
