Riverside downs Red Oak in girls soccer

Haile Goodman, Bailey Richardson and Caelen Schueman each scored two goals apiece in Riverside’s 10-0 win over Red Oak in non-conference girls soccer Thursday at Russ Benda Field in Red Oak.
After more than 10 minutes of well-played, evenly matched play the Bulldogs (6-4) got on the board in the 11th minute. Six minutes later, they extended their lead to a 2-0 lead.
That snowball of momentum carried the Bulldogs to six more goals over the next nine minutes of play.
The Tigers tried their absolute hardest the entire game, said Red Oak head coach Dion Coffey, and eventually conceded their 10th goal in the 34th minute.
“We played with such determination and grit this game and I’m thankful we have unity amongst our teammates,” Coffey said. “We never gave up and we did a fantastic job moving the ball today. It was one of the best games the Tigers had played all year, and we are only getting better. Many of the players stepped up and played a big role in different positions and were able to familiarize different spots on the field.”
Coffey singled out Mariella Richards-Hernandez in goal where she had 12 saves for the Tigers.

C.B. Lewis Central 15,
Red Oak 0
State ranked Council Bluffs Lewis Central scored all of its goals in the first half to top Red Oak 15-0 in Hawkeye 10 Conference girls soccer last Wednesday.
The Titans (8-4-1) had a strong start and ultimately were able to keep pressure, giving them multiple scoring chances. They scored their first goal in the third minute of the game and with momentum on their side they finished again, quickly making the score 2-0.
The Titans put on a clinic and buried goal after goal making it 5-0 after the 13th minute mark, said Red Oak coach Dion Coffey.
“The Tigers gave everything they had and were working hard all throughout the game without giving up,” Coffey said.
“I’m very proud of how our team played today because most teams would give up early and roll over. Our girls are resilient and have all the positive attitude in the world. I’m glad to have such great characters on a unified team. Most of the team played in a different position today to help experiment for future matches that are yet to come. We are getting better and better every single day.”
Irelynn White had four goals and Finley Vokt, Zoey Overall, Kayla Allen and Olivia Katzer had two goals each for the Titans.

Tigers fall on
senior night
Tri-Center built a 6-0 lead and held off Red Oak in a 10-1 boys soccer victory Friday in Neola.
Red Oak coach Mark Kells said his team didn’t get off to the start they were looking for against Tri-Center as the Trojans got on the board just two minutes into the match for the early 1-0 lead. They added to their lead seven minutes to later to go up 2-0 less than 10 minutes in on their way to a 6-0 halftime margin.
After the intermission, the Trojans quickly extended their lead to 8-0.
“We battled all game just had some bad touches and a few unlucky bounces,” said Red Oak coach Mark Kells.
The Tigers did manage to find the back of the net off a set piece at the 63rd minute with Wyatt Roberts getting a goal and Santiago Vasquez notching the assist.
“After a great win last night, we just seemed like we were out of gas during today’s match and everything we tried to do backfired on us,” Kells said. “I felt better about this matchup with Tri-Center as our personnel and formation was better this time around but just ran out of steam and shorthanded with some injuries this late in the season.”
Adan Goldapp had four goals to lead Tri-Center.

Red Oak 10,
Riverside 5
The Red Oak soccer team picked up its first victory of the season with a 10-5 win over Riverside in boys non-conference soccer Friday in Red Oak.
The Tigers came out of the gate with great energy and quickly found the back of the net just minutes into the contest.
The Bulldogs would even the score two minutes later, but the Tigers would answer.
On the ensuing kickoff, Red Oak pushed the ball down the middle of the pitch and managed to get a foul call inside the 18-yard box to force a penalty kick. Casey Johnson put in the shot for a 2-1 lead. The teams would trade goals over the next 12 minutes with the score sitting at 3-3 when the Tigers would explode for two goals in five minutes to take the lead for good.
Red Oak would take an 8-4 lead into halftime.
After the break, the Tigers’ energy remained but the Bulldogs closed the lead to 8-5.
Red Oak did maintain possession for most of the second half and didn’t concede another goal for final 28 minutes of the match. The Tigers added two goals in that time to pull out the win.
“I was proud of how we responded from four tough games last week,” said Red Oak coach Mark Kells. “We played with great energy tonight as a team and communicated on the pitch but most of all we were having fun.”
Pace Chaillie and Santiago Vasquez each had a hat trick for the Tigers – three goals – and were joined by Wyatt Roberts with two goals and Manuel De Leon and Johnson with a goal each.
