Interim superintendent hired in Stanton

STANTON — The Stanton Community School District hired an interim superintendent last week to replace Judd Ashley who resigned last month after 25 years of service due to medical concerns.

Terry Christie comes to Stanton with 11 years of superintendent experience, most recently at New Hampton, where he retired during 2006.

School Board President Jeff Magneson said Christie was chosen because of his experience with small districts. He also is financially savvy, which will help with the one-to-one laptop initiative the board hopes to implement next year.

Dr. Chris Herrick, current superintendent of Fremont-Mills, was also considered for the position as part of a potential sharing agreement.

Magneson said Herrick would only have been available part time, and due to new faculty and programs like the laptop initiative the district needed full time attention.

“Every option remains open in the future,” Magneson said about what will happen after Christie’s one-year contract expires. “We have not closed the door to sharing.”
