  • Bill Drey accepts Extension Coordinator Position

    The Montgomery and Cass County Extension Councils are pleased to announce Bill Drey has accepted the position of County Extension Coordinator for both counties. Drey began this position on Feb. 1. His primary duties will be to provide leadership for Extension’s educational programs with ongoing planning and coordination in agricultural, horticulture, community, family and 4-H and youth programming.

  • YMCA employee of the quarter

    The Montgomery County Family YMCA would like to announce that Dillon Fenn of Red Oak, who is a very active lifeguard at the YMCA, was selected as the final 2009 YMCA Employee of the Quarter for the months of October-December.

  • Rotary's new member

    The Red Oak Rotary Club is proud to announce the club’s newest Red Oak Rotarian - Jeff Schmidt the Director of Red Oak Rehab and Care Center located in Red Oak.

    Schmidt was a Rotarian in Plattsmouth, Neb. and has been actively involved in Red Oak with the Red Oak Ambassador’s program and several other community projects and organizations.

    The Red Oak Rotary Club meets every Tuesday for lunch at noon at the Red Coach Inn and Restaurant located at 1200 Senate Avenue on Highway 34.

    Rotary is designed for Service Above Self.

  • Sherri Clark receives award

    Nishna Productions Director Sherri Clark was presented the Bill Donohue Memorial Award on Oct. 15 at the Iowa Rehabilitation Association annual conference/awards program. The event was held this year at the Clarion Inn in Cedar Rapids.

  • YMCA volunteers of the month

    The December, 2009 Volunteers of the Month at the Montgomery County Family YMCA were recently announced, they are Rex and Terri Allen of Stanton. The Allen’s were named for their efforts in leading the YMCA’s 2009 “Membership for Everyone” Annual Campaign program and reaching the campaign goal of $38,000. This program assists individuals and families who wish to become YMCA member or program participants, but dew to financial limitations feel they could not join or participate with the YMCA.

  • Free tax services

    Free tax preparation services will be available in southwest Iowa for low and moderate income families as part of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program sponsored by the Southwest Iowa Making Connections program. For more information or to make an appointment call after Jan. 25 to 712-755-3104.

    Residents in Harrison, Shelby, Audubon, Rural Pottawattamie, Cass, Mills, Montgomery, Fremont, and Page Counties are eligible to participate.

  • YMCA receives donation

    The Montgomery County Family YMCA was notified that they are the recipients of $5,000 to the YMCA’s Endowment Fund from the Josephine R. Mitchell Trust. Walter Russell, Co-Trustee of Ms. Mitchell’s Trust said that “Josephine was born and grew up on the family farm southwest of Emerson Iowa, graduated from Red Oak High School and taught school in Glenwood and Villisca in the 1930s and 40s. Although she lived most of her adult life in Los Angeles California, upon her retirement from American Airlines she returned to Red Oak where she has lived the last 25 years”.
