• Villisca school district informational bond referendum meeting March 5

    A Villisca Community School District Informational Bond Referendum Community Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 5 at the Middle School Media Center. All interested persons are invited to attend.

    The bond referendum is asking for the Villisca Community to allow the Villisca Community School District to isse a (GO) General Obligation bond in an amount not to exceed $6,005,000 to provide funds to repair, improve and equip Enarson Elementary and Villisca Middle School buildings, including HVAC, fire alarm systems, roof improvements and plumbing.


  • Artists wanted for April 27 art show at IWCC

     Iowa Artists Region 9 Art Show is planned for Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Iowa Western Community College inCouncil Bluffs .  Artist sign in is from 9 until 10 and the show will end between 3 and 4 in the afternoon.  The show is free to the public to view the artwork and they are invited to attend after 10 in the morning when the art will be ready for viewing.  The show will be held in Art Room 216 at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs.

  • ISP partners with ABD to begin I-PLEDGE program

    The Iowa State Patrol has taken a pledge to keep tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products out of the hands of youth.

    Known as I-PLEDGE, the program is a partnership with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division (ABD) to educate local retailers and to enforce Iowa’s tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor product laws. Since the program’s inception in 2000, the statewide tobacco compliance rate has grown to 91%. By participating in the program, the Iowa State Patrol has committed to do its part to increase the compliance rate even more this year.

  • College Graduation

    Sydney Grebin, Stanton, is among the new alumni added to the roster of graduates of the University of Northern Iowa. Grebin earned a Bachelor of Arts with a major in family services.

  • Dean’s List

    Sydney Grebin, Stanton, is among the students named to the spring 2017 semester dean’s list at the University of Northern Iowa.

    To be included on the list, a student must have earned a grade point of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, while taking at least 12 hours of graded work during the semester. On the 4.0 system, an A is worth four points; a B, three points; a C, two points, and a D, one point.

  • Dean’s List

    Abbey Pratt, Red Oak, was one of 423 students whose exceptional achievements were honored by the College of Saint Mary with the release of the dean’s list for the spring 2017 semester. Pratt is pursuing a Bacelor of Science degree in occupational therapy.

    To qualify for the College of Saint Mary Dean’s List, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher after completing at least 12 semester hours as a full-time student.

  • College Graduation

    Justin Eccles, Red Oak, was one of the more than 7,000 students who received degrees during the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s spring commencement ceremonies, May 11, 2017.

    Eccles earned a Master of Arts degree in Art Education from the School of Education.

    • Teresa Sparks, of Villisca, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in educational studies. Sparks attended BVU’s Creston site.

    • Cecily Knapp, of Villisca, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English education. Knapp attended BVU’s Creston site.

    • Casaundra Currin, of Villisca, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise science - human performance. Currin attended BVU at Storm Lake.

  • College Graduations

    Dordt College

    Jennifer Allen of Red Oak, was among the 355 graduates of Dordt College who received diplomas at the 2017 commencement ceremony May 5. Allen graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in Design and Technical Theatre.

    Central College

    Central College seniors graduated May 13, with 238 students participating in commencement.
