  • WIS Celebrates National Library Week

    National Library Week is celebrating its 51st anniversary April 12-18. The American Library Association sponsors this event each year to honor the contributions made by our nation’s libraries and librarians. April is also Library Media Month. The students and staff at Washington Intermediate School are planning their 2nd Annual School and Community Reading Party on Friday, April 17th, from 11:30-12:30 in Fountain Square Park.

  • Student Senate announces service, quality award recipients

    Northwest’s Student Senate hosted the University’s annual Tower Service/Commitment to Quality Awards Banquet on April 7, in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom.

    The Student Senate established the Tower Service Award in 1987 to honor individuals who demonstrate exceptional commitment to the University and its mission. Recipients are selected based on their continuing accomplishments and service to the Northwest community.

  • William Penn Academic Honors Program recognizes academic achievement and leadership

    Oskaloosa - April 9 - William Penn University held its annual Academic

    Honors Program on April 4, to recognize outstanding academic achievement and leadership within the campus community. William Penn University is located in Oskaloosa, and was founded by Quaker pioneers in 1873.

  • Elks announce poster winners

    From among the posters submitted for the Elks’ 2008 poster contest, two local winners best addressed the “Get Smart Don’t Start” theme. The Elks awarded both fourth grader Dana Marsden and fifth grader Sydney Straw $25 in Red Oak Chamber Bucks along with forwarding their drug awareness posters on to higher competition. Marsden’s poster also won district and state competitions and she received an additional $150 as a U.S. savings bond. Her poster will compete nationally.

  • Red Oak High School French Class Visits State Capitol

    Students in Red Oak High School’s French class 3 and 4 visited and toured the historic State Capitol recently where they met with Rep. Cecil Dolecheck. One of the students, Allison Adams, is currently serving as a page in the House of Representatives.
