Republican, Democrat caucuses set for Jan. 15
The Montgomery County Republican caucus is slated for Jan. 15.
The caucus will be located at the Red Oak Junior/Senior High School gymnasium at 2011 N. 8th St. Doors open for registration at 5:30 p.m., and registration closes at 7 p.m. The caucus will start promptly at 7 p.m. and continue until business is completed.
Participants must be a registered Republican in order to participate in the caucus, as well as be a resident of Montgomery County.
Those wishing to participate, must register by 7 p.m. Anyone who attends the caucus after 7 p.m. cannot participate in the caucus process, but they can observe the proceedings.
Central Committee and county delegates from each of the seven precincts will be selected. A presidential preference straw poll will also be taken.
Democratic Caucus
The Iowa Democratic Party caucus will take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 15 at the First Congregational UCC Church, 608 E. Reed St., Red Oak
Participants must be in line or signed in by 7 p.m. to participate.
The purpose of this year’s caucus is to:
• Discuss and adopt proposed resolutions to be added to the county platform. The state party platform starts here. Anyone can submit a platform idea for discussion.
• Elect unbound delegates and alternates to the County Convention. Delegates get to vote on decisions made at each convention level Alternates are also selected to fill vacancies if a delegate is unable to attend the convention.
• Elect precinct committee persons to the County Central Committee. Each precinct has representation on the county central committee to make decisions of the local county party.
