Miles Russell, 68
Miles H. Russell, 68, Red Oak, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Miles Hamilton Russell, the son of Paul McIntyre and Lila May (Sederburg) Russell, was born Nov. 4, 1954, in Red Oak. Miles was raised in Red Oak and graduated with the class of 1972.
Following graduation, he began working and learning the electrical trade business with Lyndon Moore Electric and Phil Updike Electric. Miles eventually opened his own business, Russell Electric, where he continued his electrical career of 52 years.
Miles and his wife, Teresa Baird, were married almost 50 years, being united in marriage on Nov. 29, 1975. The most beloved and treasured people in his life were his wife, girls and grandkids. He loved caring for his family, as well as his elaborate flowers and green grass. Miles enjoyed grilling, yard work, growing flowers, and birds, especially hummingbirds, which he and Teresa enjoyed watching. He also had a soft spot in his heart for dachshund dogs. Miles was a people person, had a joking and teasing sense of humor and didn’t know a stranger. He loved helping others and giving back to the community he loved.
Miles enjoyed his antique cars and being an active member of the Red Oak Classy Chassis Car Club. He loved driving his convertible in parades to chauffeur guests of honor and shared his car by allowing it to be driven to proms and weddings. For many years, he sponsored a 4-H trophy at the county fair and helped many kids in his family with 4-H projects. Miles was also a member of the Elks Club, Red Oak Chamber & Industry Association, Optimist Club, and Center Ridge Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and Clerk of Session. During the Christmas season, his “electrical touch” shines at Baird’s Christmas lights.
Miles was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lynne Russell; and father- and mother-in-law, Jack and Joanne Baird.
Miles is survived by his wife, Teresa Russell of Red Oak; daughters, Michelle (Rick) Sander of Ankeny, and Danielle (Luke) Smith of Loveland, Colo.; three grandchildren, Nolan, Austin and Macie Sander; brother, Alan (Beth) Russell of Red Oak; brothers-in-law, Kirk (Linda) Baird of Red Oak, and Chris (Christine) Baird of Red Oak; and sisters-in-law, Deanna (Scott) Suchting of Red Oak, and Yvonne (Loren) Putze of Jefferson, Ore.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn.
