  • YMCA golf tournament raises $5K

    RED OAK — The YMCA Fall 2010 Golf Tournament was held in the rain on Saturday, Sept. 25th at the Red Oak Country Club.  
    The tournament was not completed due to the rainy weather conditions but 10 teams played a Four Person Best Ball tournament format giving the tournament a strong field of 40 players from Iowa and Nebraska.  

  • Tiger third graders win league championship, defeat Atlantic

    The Red Oak third grade competitive baseball team was crowned the 2010 league champions June 19, in Massena.

    Red Oak defeated Atlantic, 15-0, in the final tournament game to earn the title.
    Going into the tournament, the Tigers were undefeated, being seeded number one.
    Red Oak finished the season with a record of 12-1.

  • Sign up deadline for Elliott’s “Caleb Dial” 5K announced

    ELLIOTT — The Montgomery County Family YMCA has coordinated with the Elliott Businessmen & Betterment Association and Elliott Fall Festival Committee for the 12th Annual “Caleb Dial” Elliott Fall Festival 5K Run and 2 Mile Run-Walk at 7 a.m. in Elliott, on Saturday, Aug. 28.  
     The race will start and finish at the Elliott Community Center on Main Street.
    There will be fresh fruit and a water station at the finish line.
    Participants can register on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 6:15-6:45 a.m.  

  • Bishop takes 2nd in Ultra Marathon

    LAGRANGE, WISC. — Brad Bishop of Kansas City, Mo. won second place of 168 runners in the Kettle 100-mile Endurance Race on June 6.

    This year’s event had a record number of participants who had to battle with more than six hours of rain while running.
    Bishop finished the race in 20 hours and 38 minutes.  He also placed first in his age division.
    Bishop graduated from Red Oak High School in 2004 before continuing his education at Grinnell College in Grinnell.
    Bishop is the son of Bryan and Connie Bishop of Red Oak.
