  • Former Red Oak High School athlete inducted in M-Club HOF
    MARYVILLE, Mo. — Former Red Oak High School tennis player Julie Blane was recently inducted into the Northwest Missuori State University’s M-Club Hall of Fame. An induction ceremony and banquet was held for her Oct. 21. Blane competed at NWMSU from 1997-2001. During that time, Blane won four individual MIACC Conference titles, making four appearances to the NCAA Div. II National Tournament and helped the Bearcats win two conference titles.
  • Subbert honored as MCC hitter of the week
    DES MOINES — Former Stanton Viqueens volleyball player Kadie Subbert was honored last Monday as the Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC) Volleyball Hitter of the Week. Subbert, a freshman for the Grand View University Vikings volleyball team, received the award after finishing with double-digit kills in every match during a one-week period. One notable highlight for Subbert was when she recorded 22 kills against Wayland Baptist University at the Olivet Nazarene Tournament, Oct. 14.
  • Cy-Hawk Contest
    The Iowa-Iowa State football game will take place this Saturday in Ames and the Red Oak Express has the contest for you. Post your score prediction for the Cy-Hawk game on the Red Oak Express Facebook page. Whoever predicts the closest score will will a free three-month subscription to the Red Oak Express' website. If more than one person picks the correct outcome, there will be a drawing to pick the winner. You have until Saturday at 10:30 a.m. to enter your prediction.   • Bearcats No. 3 in national preseason football poll
    MARYVILLE — The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats are ranked third in the preseason football poll released by the American Football Coaches Association, on Aug. 15. The Bearcats received 624 points in the preseason poll, including one first place vote. Minnesota-Duluth, the defending National Champions, are ranked No. 1 in the poll, receiving 28 of 29 first place votes. Delta State (Miss.) is second in the preseason poll with 657 points. Abilene Christian is fourth and Grand Valley State is fifth in the preseason poll.
  • SWCC softball registration to continue until Aug. 30
    CRESTON — Registration for the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Softball Fall League is under way. The softball league is for all girls from 7th through 12th grade. Leagues won't be separate, so middle schoolers may play in high school leagues. There will be a 10 game season with games being played Sunday afternoons (and Saturdays when needed). Games start Sept. 4 and will be played at the SWCC softball diamond. A league tournament will take place at the end of the season.
  • SWCC to host time trial to open season
    CRESTON — The Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Spartans open up the 2011 cross country season with a meet at home. SWCC will host the Region XI Time Trial at the Creston Campus on Saturday, Aug. 27 at 1 p.m. The Spartans will also host the Regional Championships on Oct. 29 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Reivers begin third football season Aug. 27
    COUNCIL BLUFFS — Fresh off their first bowl appearance, the Iowa Western Reivers begin their third season of football Aug. 27 on the road. The Reivers first game will be in Highland, Kan. as they take on Highland Community College. On Sept. 3, Iowa Western plays their first home game when they take on Dakota College at 1 p.m. Their next home game is Sept. 10 when they face Joliet Junior College.
  • Reivers to host tournament to open volleyball season
    COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Iowa Western Reivers looks to build upon their five straight National Tournament appearances when they open up the 2011 volleyball season. The Reivers season begins Aug. 26-27 when they host the Reiver Classic Tournament in Council Bluffs. To make it back to the National Tournament, the Reivers will turn to new recruits, including former Villisca High School athlete, Courtney Auxier.
  • Subbert, Grand View, make their season debut Aug. 26-27
    DES MOINES — The Grand View Vikings will host the Grand View Tournament on Aug. 26-27 to open up their 2011 volleyball season. Grand View will play the College of St. Mary and Midland University on Aug. 26 and face Dakota State and Saint Xaiver the next day. The Vikings first non-tournament match will be Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. when they play Briar Cliff University.
  • Bearcats sixth in preseason conference volleyball poll
    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Northwest Missouri State Bearcats were selected as No. 6 in the 2011 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Assocation (MIAA) Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, released Aug. 3. Northwest Missouri (39 points) was eight points away from taking Pittsburg State's spot in the top five for the poll. Central Missouri currently sits at No. 1 in the preseason poll, receiving nine of 10 first place votes. Washburn, who is second in the poll, received the other first place vote.
