  • Red Oak scores fourth win at AL tourney

     COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Red Oak softball team scored a win Saturday at the Abraham Lincoln tournament as they finished seventh.

    Red Oak defeated Clarinda 4-2. The Tigers concluded the day of solid softball with the win against Clarinda, their fourth of the season.

    Kamryn Buntrock and Hailey Fada were both 2-for-3 in the game.  Buntrock scored two runs. Sarah Behrens and Ashlee Young both went 1-for-3.

  • Viqueens bounce back with Nishnabotna victory

     HAMBURG — The Stanton Viqueens softball team completed the sweep of Nishnabotna when they won 9-1 Friday night in Hamburg.

    Stanton scored eight of their nine runs in the last three innings, including three in both the fifth and seventh.

    The Viqueens had 11 hits in the win, with several players recording multi-hit games. Logan Wagg led the way by going 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.

  • Vikings split week of games

     The Stanton baseball team picked up two wins early last week against the Essex Trojans.

    The Vikings defeated Essex last Monday 23-4 and 16-6.

    In the first game, Stanton put up eight runs in the first inning and didn’t stop. They scored three in the fourth inning to ensure they get the win via the mercy rule.

    Brady Johnson went 4-for-5 with a double, four runs scored and two RBIs.

  • Southwest Valley falls short against Southeast Warren

     LIBERTY CENTER — The Southwest Valley softball and baseball teams lost on the road Friday night in conference action versus Southeast Warren.

    The softball team lost 12-0 in three innings, while the baseball team fell 6-3.

    Southeast Warren scored 10 runs in the first inning to take a commanding lead on the Timberwolves softball team. They scored two more runs in the third to put the game away and get the win.

  • Sports Calendar: June 26

    We have another busy evening on the sports calendar. There are chances of showers and thunderstorms, but as of now, everything is still on as scheduled.

    The Red Oak baseball team will be home Friday evening for a varsity doubleheader versus Lewis Central. The action starts at 5:30 p.m.

    The Tigers also make up their triangular against Missouri Valley and Southwest Valley on Saturday starting at noon.

    Meanwhile, the Red Oak softball team will be on the road and busy with the Abraham Lincoln Invitational in Council Bluffs both Friday and Saturday.

  • Sports Calendar: June 25

    There's a lot going on and hopefully the rain holds off again for the evening.

    The Red Oak baseball and softball teams hit the road again for varsity doubleheaders against Denison-Schleswig. The doubleheaders are set for 5:30 p.m. starts in Denison.

    Meanwhile, the Corner Conference races heat up as Stanton will be home for a softball/baseball varsity doubleheader against Fremont-Mills. It will be parent's night for both teams as the action starts at 6 p.m.

  • Regional Softball Pairings Released

    The regional softball pairings were released for all five classes Monday evening. 

    Here's a look at the area teams competing in regionals.

    Class 3A

    The Red Oak Tigers will be competing in Region 8 of Class 3A. The Tigers will begin quarterfinal play July 8 when they travel south to Shenandoah to take on the Fillies.

    The other quarterfinal games are Atlantic versus Clarinda, Kuemper Catholic versus East Sac County and Greene County versus Pocahontas Area.

  • Sports Calendar: June 23

    It's a busy night on the sports calendar. As of now, everything is still on, but there is severe weather possible in the forecast for Tuesday.

    The big match-up of the night takes place in Essex when they host Fremont-Mills for some softball and baseball varsity doubleheaders. 

    The softball doubleheader will be the one to watch as both teams fight for first place in the Corner Conference.

  • Legendary wrestler to speak in Corning

     CORNING — One of the greatest wrestlers ever in the state of Iowa will be making a stop in the area.

    The Southwest Valley High School Booster Club will be presenting former University of Iowa wrestling coach Dan Gable next month.

  • Viqueens recover with wins over EM/Bedford

     MALVERN — The Stanton Viqueens responded to their Southwest Valley loss by winning two straight games to close out the week.

    The most recent win came Friday night in Malvern when Stanton defeated East Mills 21-8.

    Stanton (6-7 overall, 4-1 conference) scored nine runs in two different innings, including the seventh, to get the win.
