  • Vikings rebound against East Mills

     MALVERN — The Stanton Vikings got back on track Friday evening in Malvern when they defeated East Mills 11-8 in Corner Conference baseball action.

    Stanton scored one run in the first and five more in the second to take charge early. East Mills battled back, but it wouldn’t be enough as Stanton held on to get the split.

    The win keeps Stanton (3-5 overall and in the conference) fourth in the Corner Conference standings.

  • Tigers fall short versus Kuemper

     RED OAK —The Red Oak softball team concluded a rough week on Friday evening with their doubleheader against Kuemper Catholic and it won’t be any easier this week.

    The Tigers have three conference doubleheaders, including one Monday night at home against Glenwood.

    Last week’s schedule ended for the Tigers after they were swept in a doubleheader by the Knights 13-0 in five innings and 15-1 in three.

  • T’Wolves score lone win of week over Stanton

     STANTON — The rivalry was briefly re-kindled last Wednesday at Anderson Park as the Southwest Valley softball team defeated Stanton 16-6 in six innings.

    The Timberwolves were able to get the win by the 10-run mercy rule after Lexi Bronner knocked in two runs on a single.

  • Red Oak baseball sweeps Shen

     The Red Oak baseball team has accomplished a lot in a short amount of time this year, including a sweep against a long time rival.

    Red Oak (3-6 overall, 2-5 conference) completed a regular season sweep of the Shenandoah Mustangs last Tuesday with their 3-1 win at Sportsman Park. It’s the first time that the Tigers have swept a conference team since they did it to Clarinda in 2013 and the first time they swept Shenandoah since 2005.

  • Essex wallops Nishnabotna to stay in Corner race

     ESSEX — Every win is important in the Corner Conference, and that certainly was the case for the Essex Trojanettes Friday night.

    Essex (6-4) defeated Nishnabotna 14-2 to stay right in the hunt for the Corner Conference title.

    Essex won the game in three innings, scoring four runs each in the first two and six in the third to get the win.

  • Griswold claims runner-up at home softball tournament

    GRISWOLD — The Griswold softball team finished second at their home tournament Saturday.

    Griswold (12-12 overall, 5-8 conference) lost the championship game 8-5 to Exira-EHK at the Griswold High School softball field.

    Exira-EHK got on the board early with three runs in the second and one more in the third to take a 4-0 lead. With three more in the top of the fifth, Exira-EHK appeared to be on its way to a win by taking a 7-0 lead.

  • Southwest Valley struggles continue

     CORNING — The struggles continue for the Southwest Valley baseball team after their 19-0 loss Friday night at home on senior night versus Pleasantville.

    The difference in the game was the fourth inning when the Trojans scored 11 runs.

    Clint Mullen had the only hit of the game for Southwest Valley as he went 1-for-1.

  • Sports Calendar: June 19

    We have another busy day ahead on the sports calendar as the weekend is finally here.

    Both Red Oak baseball and softball will be home Friday evening for varsity doubleheaders. The baseball team will be busy at Legion Park as they host Atlantic. The Trojans will be the home team for game two of the doubleheader. The action starts at the baseball field at 3:30 p.m. with the junior varsity game, followed by varsity at 5:30 and 7:30.

  • Sports Calendar: June 18

    We have another busy day on the sports calendar with lots of softball and baseball action scheduled.

    The Red Oak baseball team returns to action Thursday evening as they travel back to Carroll to complete the second game of a doubleheader that was postponed May 29. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. start at the Carroll Baseball Stadium.

    The Stanton baseball and softball teams are heading to the same location for Thursday as they play doubleheaders against Bedford. The first game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.

  • Sports Calendar: June 17

    Here's a look at the area baseball and softball games taking place for Wednesday.

    The Red Oak softball team hits the road once again as they play a JV/varsity doubleheader in Council Bluffs versus Abraham Lincoln. The doubleheader starts at 5:30 p.m.

    Both Stanton teams play make-up games for Wednesday evening. The baseball team goes on the road as they play Lenox. It will be just varsity as they play at 6 p.m. The softball team will be home as they host Southwest Valley. Varsity will play first at 6 p.m.
