  • Tigers put focus on postseason

     RED OAK — With the regular season done and out of the way, the Red Oak softball team is setting its sights on its regional softball tournament opener Wednesday against Shenandoah.

    Red Oak concluded the final regular season game Friday with a 14-0 loss in three innings at home versus the Creston Panthers.

    Despite closing the regular season with a loss, the Tigers (4-28) have matched the win total for the previous two seasons combined. 

  • Griswold enters softball postseason with 20 wins

    GRISWOLD — The Griswold softball team was scheduled to enter its first round postseason game Monday night after first 20-win season in a long time.

    The Tigers won three out of four last week to ensure that they reached the 20-win mark.

    The most recent win came last Tuesday night on the road when they defeated Essex 13-2 in five innings.

    Griswold scored early and often, getting out to a 7-0 lead before Essex scored a run.

  • T’Wolves fall short versus Wayne

     CORYDON — The struggles for Southwest Valley baseball and softball continued Friday night after their losses to Wayne.

    The baseball team lost 10-0 to Wayne in five innings. Southwest Valley (6-18) was held to one hit by Nick Frederick as Wayne scored four in the fifth inning to get the win via the mercy rule.

  • Red Oak gets lone win versus Clarinda

     The Red Oak baseball team concluded another busy week and had one win early.

    The lone win came last Monday on the road when the Tigers defeated Clarinda 7-3.

    Red Oak (5-18) scored three runs early and stayed in control for the remainder of the game. Clarinda tried to close the gap in the second inning, but the Tigers held on, adding one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth inning.

  • UPDATE: Sports Calendar: July 2

    UPDATE: The Red Oak baseball/softball doubleheader has been moved to Harlan. Also, the Essex baseball doubleheader versus Lamoni has been canceled.

    We're now into July as the baseball and softball season continues on for the holiday weekend.

    Red Oak baseball and softball teams will be on the road to face Harlan. It will be doubleheaders as the games start at 5:30 p.m.

  • District Baseball Pairings Released

    THe district tournament pairings for high school baseball were released by the Iowa High School Athletic Association Wednesday morning. Here are the district brackets for the area teams competing.

    Class 2A District 15

    The Red Oak Tigers will be in District 15 of Class 2A and will play an opening round game July 11 at 5 p.m. in Avoca versus Clarinda.

    The winner of the game will take on Treynor July 14 in Avoca at 5 p.m.

  • Sports Calendar: June 30

    It's the last day of June and the summer season heats up as the postseason draws closer.

    Both Red Oak teams will be in action Tuesday when they're on the road to play Creston. There was a change in the start time. The varsity baseball and softball teams will play first at 5:30 p.m. The JV teams will play at 7:30 p.m.

    In Corner Conference action, the Stanton softball team hits the road to play Thomas Jefferson. Varsity will play first at 6 p.m.

  • Trojanettes claim Corner title outright

     ESSEX — There’s no disputing it now. The Essex Trojanettes are the champions of Corner Conference softball.

    Essex (14-6 overall, 9-1 conference) clinched the conference title outright Friday night with their 13-0 win against the East Mills Wolverines at home on senior night.

  • Tigers back on track with win over SWV

     RED OAK — The Red Oak baseball team closed out the week Saturday by picking up their fourth win of the season, defeating Southwest Valley 8-2 at Legion Park.

    The difference in the game was the second inning when Red Oak (4-13) scored three runs with two outs to take a 4-2 lead.
