Today's Sports

  • In the Nic of time

Nic Duysen, East Mills incoming senior, transitions from the diamond to the field to the court to the track and golf course and back to the diamond with such ease that he makes being a five-sport standout look easy. He lifts weights year-round, also.
“I like to be busy and stay active,” Duysen said. “You meet different people and build friendships in the different sports, and that is beneficial.”
It also played a big part in him overcoming his shyness.

  • RO Cross Country Challenge

The fifth annual Red Oak Cross Country Challenge 5K Run was held on Saturday, Aug. 10 at the Red Oak Country Club. Proceeds from the event benefit the Red Oak Community School District cross country team.

  • All Express baseball team

The All-Express baseball team has been selected. Players from the Corner Conference, Hawkeye 10, and Pride of Iowa were compared and evaluated for hours before the final selections were agreed upon by the committee. This year’s team looks a bit different than the teams from the past, and it all begins with the captain: Red Oak senior Colton Kinnison.

  • Express All-Area softball

The softball season is over for the six schools that the Express covers, and it is time for the All-Area softball honors.
Every year, I think it will get easier to make the decisions, and every year I am mistaken. The teams covered compete in three different conferences: Corner, Hawkeye 10, and Pride of Iowa, making selections a more difficult task.
Some teams had some tough seasons, but when you look at the roster and realize how young some of those teams were, it becomes clear that the next few seasons of summer ball is going to be exciting to cover.
