Accidents

  • On Oct. 3 at 2:50 p.m., the Sheriff’s office responded to a single-vehicle property damage rollover accident in rural Montgomery County. A 2004 Nissan Sentra, owned and operated by Chelsea L. Morris, 21, Red Oak, was westbound on 130th St., about one and a half miles west of Hwy 48. Morris over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle on the loose gravel. The vehicle entered the south ditch where it came to rest on its side. Damage it the Morris vehicle is estimated at $4,000. The accident is still under investigation. No citations have been issued at this time.
  • On Oct. 4 at 11:05 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office investigated a two-vehicle property damage accident at the intersection of 4th Ave. and Depot St. in Villisca. It was determined that a 1995 Ford F-150 operated by Blake Haidsiak-Riggle, 16, Villisca, was traveling westbound on Depot St. Haidsiak-Riggle could not make the turn to the north due to roadway conditions. The vehicle slid into a southbound 2002 Chevy Impala operated by Whitney Bayles, 16, Prescott, causing a property damage accident. Damage is estimated at $500 to the Haidsiak-Riggle vehicle and at $1,500 to the Bayles vehicle. No citations were issued due to the roadway conditions.
  • On Oct. 4, at 1:45 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office investigated a two-vehicle property damage accident in the 1900 block of 265th St. in Villisca. It was determined a 2007 Kenworth T800 semi tractor/trailer operated by Ricky Lukehart, 57, Red Oak, pulled away from the stop sign and did not see the 2002 Chevy 1500 operated by Allan Olson, 61, Griswold, who was eastbound on 265th St., striking it in the rear, causing a property damage accident. Damage is estimated at $600 to the Kenworth and $1,500 to the Chevy. Lukehart was issued a citation for failure to obey a stop sign.
  • On Oct. 5, at 8:20 a.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office investigated a single-vehicle property damage accident at the intersection of 3rd Ave. and 4th St. in Villisca. It was determined a 1998 Dodge 1500 operated by Gerald Maxwell, 88, Villisca, was pulling into a parking spot on the south side of the 300 block of E. 4th St. in Villisca when he pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the vehicle to jump the curb and strike the Villisca Family Clinic, causing a property damage accident. Damage to the Dodge is estimated at $500 and damage to the medical clinic is estimated at $8,000. No citations were issued.
  • On Oct. 6, at 12:04 a.m., Montgomery County Communications received a call of a single-vehicle accident a half of a mile east of Hwy 48 on 100th St. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s officers arrived on the scene and observed Elliott first responders and multiple vehicles on the road. Upon investigation, it was determined Jordan Vetter was returning home from the homecoming dance at Griswold. When he turned onto 100th St from Hwy 48, he was swerved to miss a deer, going into the north ditch and causing his Ford F-150 to roll. Vetter was checked by Red Oak Rescue and refused any additional treatment. Vetter skid about 111 feet prior to entering the ditch and traveled about 84 feet while in the ditch before coming to a stop. The truck started and was driveable. Damage to the truck was estimated at $7,000. No citations were issued.
