2010 Live Healthy Iowa (LHI) Program

The Montgomery County Family YMCA announced that they were once again chosen as a recipient of a Live Healthy Iowa (LHI) Community Grant. The YMCA received $450 this year. The grant can be used for promotion and/or incentives for teams participating in the 2010 Live Healthy Iowa Program. Live Healthy Iowa is brought to you by the Iowa Department of Public Health, Iowa Sports Foundation (dba Iowa Games) and Iowa State University Extension.

Live Healthy Iowa is a statewide, Web-based 100 Day Challenge (Jan. 14 - April 23) that encourages teams and participants to make small, realistic changes in diet and physical activity habits that will last a lifetime. Friends, family members and coworkers form teams (made up of two - 10 participants) which compete to track collective weight loss percentage and/or minutes of physical activity on a weekly basis.

Some of the program “perks” available to Live Healthy Iowa participants include a LHI Training T-shirt, monthly incentives awarded throughout the program, email tips on activity, nutrition and recipes, a free one-year subscription to one of ten lifestyle magazines.

To help teams reach their goals, the Montgomery County Family YMCA will allow LHI participants free use of the YMCA facility on Tuesday & Friday throughout the 100 days of competition with their LHI Access Card.

Registration for the 2010 Lighten Up Iowa Program will begin Dec 15 and will continue through Feb. 1, 2010. Registration can be done on-line through the Live Healthy Iowa website - www.livehealthyiowa.org. or through the mail. Registration forms are available at the Montgomery County Family YMCA.
