ACCIDENTS
- On May 30, at about 1:55 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated an accident at the intersection of E. Washington Avenue and Towle Streets in which a nine-year-old female, driving a 2004 Dodge Grand Caravan owned by Mindy Riibe, Red Oak, lost control and side-swiped a 2005 Buick owned by Jonathan Kingery, Red Oak, which was parked on the other side of the street. Damage to Riibe’s car was about $300, while Kingery’s car had about $1,500 damage. No citations were issued.
- On June 1, at about 8 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office investigated an accident in the 2000 block of Highway 34. A John Deere 4730 owned and operated by Joshua Carlson, 25, was traveling west on Highway 34 and began turning left into a field drive when Lori Mayne, 50, driving a 2009 Hyundai Sonata and also traveling west, began to pass him on the left. Both drivers swerved back into their lane and collided. Mayne was transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for treatment and was later released. Damage to Carlson’s sprayer was estimated at $10,000, and the Mayne vehicle was totaled. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Red Oak Police Department, Red Oak Fire and Rescue and Agri-vision.
- On May 2, at about 10:35 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated an accident between the intersection of Highway 34 and Alix Drive. Karen Klocke, 65, Nodaway, driving a 2010 Dodge pick-up, was pulling a seed tender wagon owned by Nodaway Valley Equipment. Klocke turned south on Highway 48 from Highway 34 and the auger, which had come loose and swung out to the side, struck a light pole, knocking the light off the top and breaking the auger partially off the wagon. Klocke then pulled into the Red Oak Chrysler, where the wagon had to be unhooked and left until arrangements could be made to pick it up. There was no damage to the pick-up, damage to the light pole was about $800 and there was about $5,000 damage to the wagon.
