INCIDENTS

  • On the morning of July 27, the Red Oak Police Department received several calls reporting burglaries of motor vehicles. The burglaries were determined to have occurred sometime between the hours of 3-8 a.m. roughly east of North 4th Street and north of East Grimes Street. Victims reporting burglaries included: Eugene Palmer, 66, Jeremiah Binns, 58, Thomas Iverson, 70, David Bergren, 51, Haily Eggleston, 23 and Christine Rea, 42, all of Red Oak. A total of around $110 was removed from the vehicles.
  • On Aug. 3, between noon and 1 p.m., a 2009 Cub Cadet “Volunteer” SUV valued at $11,000 was stolen from a residence in the 1300 block of 250th Street. The SUV is green with a black tilt box on the back. The key was in the vehicle.
  • On the morning of Aug. 4, the Red Oak Police Department received reports of three vehicle burglaries that happened in the Eastern Avenue and Summit Street neighborhood. It is believed that all the vehicles were unlocked. Items taken were: miscellaneous tools in a toolbox valued at about $305 were taken from a 2003 Kia Spectra owned by Shirley Urich, 41, Red Oak; a Magellen GPS unit and jewelry valued at about $161 were taken from a 2015 Kia Soul owned by Paul Vandrey, 61, Red Oak; prescription eyeglasses valued at about $300 were taken from a 2014 Dodge Journey owned by Ronald Copley, 37, Red Oak. People living in this area are urged to be vigilant, lock their cars, and report any suspicious activity.
  • ACCIDENTS
  • On Aug. 3, at 2:30 p.m., Red Oak Police officers were called to a two-vehicle property-damage accident in the 200 block of West Oak Street. Darian Heideman, 20, Red Oak, who was driving a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix, had stopped in the traveled portion of the street while she and the driver of a second vehicle were looking for a cell phone. Kevin Walford, 51, Red Oak, driving a 2006 Chevrolet K2600 HD, struck Heideman’s vehicle in the rear. The damage to Heideman’s vehicle was about $6,000, while damage to Walford’s vehicle was estimated at $4,000. Heideman was cited with unsafe stopping of a vehicle in the traveled portion of the highway. There were no injuries.
  • On Aug. 3, at about 5:39 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a two-vehicle property-damage accident in the 700 block of U Avenue in Villisca. Dennis Gibson, 53, Villisca, was traveling south in a 2001 Saturn L200 when he struck the rear of a 2005 Ford Focus, driven by Candix Boudreau, 33, Villisca, which was also traveling south and was slowing to make a turn. There were no injuries reported and sun glare is believed to have played a role in the collision. Damage to Gibson’s vehicle is estimated to be $2,000, and there was about $1,500 damage to Boudreau’s vehicle.  Boudreau was cited for operation of a motor vehicle without a valid license.
  • On Aug. 4, at about 7:08 p.m., Red Oak Police officers were called a two-vehicle property-damage accident. A  2010 Ford Fusion, owned by Tina Weston, Red Oak was legally parked in the 1200 block of East Reed Street and was struck by a 2008 Chrysler Sebring driven by Mikayla Fort, 16, Red Oak. There was about $1,000 damage to Weston’s vehicle, and damage to Fort’s vehicle was estimated at $500. There were no injuries.
