Incidents

• On Sept. 25 at 5:35 p.m. the Red Oak Police Department received a report from Wilda Lois Hall, of Grimes Street, Red Oak, who reported the back window had been broken out of her 2001 silver Dodge Caravan while it was parked at her residence. Hall reported the incident happened between 2-5 p.m. on that date. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Red Oak Police Department at 623-6500.
• On Sept. 25 at approximately 11:35 p.m. the Montgomery County Communications Center received a report of suspicious activity near Halland and Elliott Street in Stanton. Upon arrival, the deputy located a beige 2000 GMC pickup truck and a gooseneck flatbed trailer in the intersection of Center Street at Halland Avenue. The GMC, owned by R&D Panels of Ashland, Neb. was off the road on the north side of Center Street. The vehicle was located with the left rear bumper over a fire hydrant that was located on the northeast corner of the intersection. The driver, Randy Strode of Ashland, stated he had missed his turn and was unfamiliar with the town so he had elected to pull east onto Center Street and back up so he could return northbound on Halland where he had just come from. While backing with the length of the trailer he had backed off the north side of the street and had gotten into soft dirt on the side of the street and had slid down farther off of the street than he intended. The shoulder area of the street was fairly soft due to recent disturbance of the soil to facilitate the installation of the new water mains throughout Stanton. Strode had attempted to pull forward and his tires began to spin, so he attempted to back up to get a run to pass over a depression in the soil and in so doing, he backed the left rear bumper over the fire hydrant. Strode stated he did not see the hydrant and the vehicle became stuck. Strode then unhooked the trailer in an attempt to allow him to free the pickup. A tow service was contacted to lift the rear of the truck off of the hydrant, which had been knocked to the west from its original location, to prevent further damage. The damage under the soil was not completely evident at the time of the accident. The hydrant, belonging to the City of Stanton, sustained an estimated $3,500 damage, while the GMC sustained an estimated $250 damage to the rear bumper. There were no injuries as a result of this single vehicle, property damage accident. There were no citations issued and the investigation is complete.  

Accidents

• On Sept. 23 at approximately 7:37 p.m. the Montgomery County Communications Center received a report of a single vehicle accident that occurred near 1937 200th Street. The caller reported the driver had struck a light pole. Upon arrival deputies observed a white 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo facing to the east, on top of a portion of a sheared-off utility pole in the grass. The driver, Cody D. Parker, 15, of rural Emerson and had bruising to his right eye and a minor abrasion to his lower left abdomen from the seat belt. Parker indicated he had been eastbound on 200th Street going to a school function and had been adjusting his radio. While he was adjusting the radio he nearly went off of the south side of the roadway on the north shoulder. The vehicle continued eastbound on the shoulder of the roadway where he struck a driveway. This caused the vehicle to leave the ground briefly, continue through the yard at 1937 200th Street, strike a light pole in the yard shearing it off, and come to rest on the lower portion of the pole. Parker stated he struck his head, which caused him to briefly lose consciousness. When he regained consciousness he exited the vehicle and contacted his parents to advise them what had occurred. Damages to the 2006 Chevrolet owned by Tina R. Parker were estimated at approximately $7,000 and the damage to the light pole owned by David and Wayne Bailey is estimated at $1,500. Parker declined medical treatment at the scene. There were no citations issue and the investigation is complete. Personnel from the Red Oak Police Department and the Red Oak Fire and Rescue assisted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.  
• On Sept. 24 at approximately 7:13 p.m. the Red Oak Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of North Second Street and East Walnut Street for a reported two-vehicle property damage accident. Upon investigation into the accident the following was determined. A 2008 Jeep Liberty owned by Gladys Lynnette Riordan of Keota and operated by Patty Rae Jipsen, 54, Red Oak, was traveling eastbound on East Walnut Street and had entered and was in the middle of the intersection of North Second Street and East Walnut Street. A 2002 Ford Escort owned by Eylissa Rose Strange of Red Oak and operated by Rocky Alan James Runyon, 20, Hastings, was traveling southbound on North Second Street approaching the intersection with East Walnut Street. Runyon failed to yield the right of way to Jipsen who had control of the intersection and broadsided Jipsen’s vehicle, causing a property damage accident. The Jeep Liberty sustained approximately $3000 damage, while the Ford Escort sustained approximately $3,500 damage. Runyon was cited for failure to have a valid operator’s license and Jipsen was cited for driving while suspended. Red Oak fire and Rescue assisted the Red Oak Police Department at the scene of the accident.
