Incidents

  • Sometime between Sept. 1 at 9 p.m. and Sept. 2 at 7 a.m., persons unknown damaged the left field fence of the Stanton Community School softball field. There were five aluminum fence posts bent over at ground level at an estimated $500 damage. A floater type tire was picked up, rolled over some track hurdles and rolled and left on the football field. The trash cans along the walking trail were dumped over and two picnic tables were rolled over onto their tops. One of the tables had four metal straps bracing it to the concrete pad that were damaged. A wooden bench in the gazebo at the south area of the walking trail was damaged by removing it from its base. There was an estimated $450 damage to the bench and $25 damage to the picnic tables belonging to the City of Stanton. Anyone with information is asked to call the Montgomery County Crime Stoppers at 800-432-1001.

Accidents

  • On Aug. 24 at 8:12 a.m., officers were called to a two-vehicle property damage accident in the 1200 block of E. Cherry St.  Officers determined a 1999 Lincoln Continental driven by Richard Myers, 80, of Red Oak, was westbound on Cherry St. A 1998 Chevy Prism owned by Jeffrey Leininger of Red Oak was legally parked facing west on Cherry. Myers was unable to explain what happened. His vehicle hit the rear end of Leininger’s vehicle, disabling Myers vehicle. It was towed from the scene. Myers was seen by Red Oak Rescue, but refused transport. A family member came to transport Myers. The cause of the accident is unknown. There were no citations issued.
  • On Aug. 27 at 9:46 a.m., officers of the Red Oak Police Department were called to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of N. 5th St. and E. Coolbaugh St. Upon investigation officers determined a 2005 Chrysler 300 driven by Tanya Danick, 39, of Red Oak, was traveling east on E. Coolbaugh St. A 1984 Buick Century driven by Mary Rhodes, 86, of Red Oak was traveling north on N. 5th St. Rhodes stopped at the stop sign and then proceeded through the intersection without yielding to Danick. Danick’s vehicle struck Rhodes’ vehicle in the left rear quarter panel. Damage to Danick’s vehicle is estimated at $900; damage to Rhodes’ vehicle is estimated at $800. There were no injuries.
  • On Aug. 30 at 2:20 p.m., the Sheriff’s office responded to a single vehicle property damage accident in the City of Villisca. A 2010 Chevy Transverse owned and operated by Joni Kalkas, 35, Shenandoah, was traveling south on S. 3rd Ave. when Kalkas misjudged the entry into the railroad underpass. The right front tire of the vehicle struck the beginning of the concrete barrier wall. The vehicle landed in the roadway several feet down the steep grade of the road. There was an estimated $3,000 damage to the undercarriage of the vehicle. There was no damage to the barrier wall. No citations were issued.
