 Accidents

  • On Sept. 4 at 8 p.m., the Red Oak Police Department received a call from Kalab Wagaman, 30, Red Oak, stating a vehicle had side-swiped his 2008 Hyundai Elantra on the front driver side panel while he was approaching a stop sign. The other vehicle did not stop and left the scene. Damage to Wagaman’s vehicle is estimated at $600. At this time, damage to the other vehicle is unknown. There will be no citations issued at this time.
  • On Sept. 7 at 12:16 p.m., officers were called to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of North 8th Street and East Washington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers investigated the accident and found a 2009 Dodge Journey, driving by Raymond Choate, 46, Parnell, had been traveling southbound on North 8th Street and had stopped at the stop sign. Choate entered the intersection, striking a 1998 Ford Escort, driven by Marilyn Westover, 80, Red Oak, who had been traveling west on East Washington Avenue. Westover spun and struck a 2005 Dodge Caravan legally parked in the 700 block of East Washington Avenue. Estimated damage to Choate’s vehicle is $1,000. Estimated damage to Westover’s vehicle is $5,000, while damage to the parked vehicle is about $500. There were no injuries. Choate was given a warning for failure to obey a stop sign. The Red Oak Police Department was assisted by the Red Oak Fire Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
