Area student Thomas will recite poetry in competition

DeMarcus Thomas, of Malvern, was one of six Iowa School for the Deaf high school juniors to participate in the national Poetry Out Loud competition Tuesday, Jan.10.

DeMarcus chose his selection, “Fire and Ice,” by Robert Frost, from  a list provided by the Poetry Out Loud program. He then worked individually, as well as with an American Sign Language mentor, to perfect his performance.

The event took place from 9:30-10:30 a.m., at the Lied Multipurpose Complex on ISD’s campus at 3501 Harry Langdon Blvd., in Council Bluffs.
