Art tour time
Southwest Iowa has a creative hub of artists, and the work of more than 80 of them will be on display this weekend during the fourth annual Southwest Iowa Art Tour.
The event is Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, noon-4 p.m. It includes 21 stops in the following Southwest Iowa towns: Council Bluffs, Glenwood, Macedonia, Atlantic, Malvern, Red Oak, Harlan, Shenandoah, Tabor, Avoca, Neola, and other rural locations.
The Southwest Iowa Art Tour is a self-guided tour. Participants can go location to location at their leisure, exploring diverse art forms, including metal, sculpture, paint, jewelry, and more. Information is available on Facebook at “Southwest Iowa Art Tour” or at swiarttour.com.

• Red Oak: Artists displaying work at The Wilson Performing Arts Center in Red Oak include Cecelia Marie Lock, pottery; Darcy Horn, jewelry, wearable art; Fred Bruce, wood; Brooke Carpenter, graphite, pastel; Trisha Early, pastels, oils; Curt Adams, mixed media, paper sculpture; Reagan Eubank, jewelry; Cherie Miner, fiber, embroidery; Claire Caswell, illustration, mixed media, fiber art and art quilts; and Phillip Lamb, metal sculpture. • Malvern: At Project Art Church in Malvern will be Zack Jones, oil; Fred Bolton, hand-turned pens; Don Baier, native wood turned bowls; Susan Woodford, metal sculpture. At Fines Arts on Fifth in Malvern will be Marge Boska, oil; Becky Kinloch, various mediums; Linda Bennett, alcohol inks; Jannie Olsen, stained glass; Patty Gillespie, jewelry; Wayne Kalal, acrylic, oil, pastels; Brian Brigham, pastel; Rogene Moon, handpainted porcelain; Theresa Rhodus, colored pencil and acrylic; Eleanor Anderson, acrylic. At Stovich & Colorado Studio will be Jorge Chavez, wooden slab furniture; Anna Stoysich, oil, ceramics. At Phyllis Bruce Studios, rural Malvern, will be Bruce with sculptures.

• Tabor: At Waubonsie Station will be Gail Younts, acrylic, pencil; Mark Pearson, photography; Carrie Ann Buchanan, acrylic; Joella Travis, fiber; Ted Stafford, upcycled furniture.
• Other: Other locations include Prairie Crossing Winery, Treynor; Avoca Courthouse; Sweet Joy Shoppe, Atlantic; Milk & Honey, Harlan; Rubi J., Harlan; Brick Wall Gallery, Harlan; The Flower Barn, Harlan; Penny’s Visions Gallery, Neola; and Harvester Artis Lofts, Council Bluffs.
The Southwest Iowa Art Tour is coordinated by the Southwest Iowa Arts Council’s volunteer board of directors with support from Golden Hills RC&D. Funding support for the event has been provided by the Iowa Arts Council, the Iowa West Foundation, the University of Iowa Office of Outreach and Engagement and numerous local businesses. The Southwest Iowa Art Tour, hosted by the Southwest Iowa Arts Council, is a group of artists from throughout the region who collaborate to provide opportunities for the public to view and purchase their work.
The Southwest Iowa Arts Council’s mission is to “Connect rural communities in Southwest Iowa through contemporary and traditional visual arts promotion and education.” Goals of the group are to promote artists in southwest Iowa and assist in their viability, recognition and support; to cultivate visual arts appreciation and patronage through education and outreach; to provide learning opportunities for youth and adults to foster an interest in the visual arts; and to create and promote events in southwest Iowa that celebrate the traditional and contemporary arts.
