Arthur J. Goodwin, 84, of Hastings, died July 27, 2009, at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.

Arthur Jesse Goodwin, son of James Thomas and Alma Edith (Fisher) Goodwin, was born Feb. 1, 1925 in Clarinda. He grew up and attended school through the 6th grade in Villisca. Art worked as a farm laborer near Villisca and Red Oak, and Tarkio and Fairfax in Mo.

Art and Jeanne Kathleen Hill of Tarkio were married March 6, 1944, in Red Oak. They had five children, Judith Ann, Sandra Kay, Janet Sue, Karen Louise, and Dale Wayne.

Art was a member of the Hastings Volunteer Fire Department since 1960 and served as Mayor of Hastings for many years.

Art is preceded in death by his parents; wife Jeanne; sisters, Doris (Leo) Thuman, and Mildred (Delmar) McConkey; and brother-in-law Charles Ewing.

Art is survived by his daughters, Judith Goodwin of Glenwood, Sandra Vance of Maryville, Mo., Sue (Rod) Courtier of Hastings, and Karen (Tom) Mandina of Ralston, Neb.; son Dale (Becky) Goodwin of Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a sister, Lois Ewing of Carroll.

Graveside services were held at Tarkio Home Cemetery in Tarkio, Mo. Funeral services were held July 30 at Living Faith Church of the Nazarene, Ralston, Neb. with Pastor Kenneth Ring officiating.

A memorial fund has been established. Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home of Malvern in charge of arrangements.
