Audrey M. Schantz, 90, Elliott, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Care Center.
Audrey Marie Schantz was born July 5, 1922 in Corning, the daughter of Roy and Winifred (Kennedy) McClelland. She graduated from Villisca High School in 1939 and attended beauty school. She was a beauty operator before her marriage to W. Dean Schantz Jan. 6, 1944, in Leavenworth, Kan. They lived in Red Oak where Audrey was a homemaker.
Audrey and Dean moved to Elliott in 1957 where they operated Schantz Grocery Store until 1972. She then worked part time for Houghton State Bank in Elliott for 10 years.
They attended the Elliott Church of Christ for many years. Audrey was a member of the O.N.O. Club and the Elliott Business and Betterment Association. She loved tending to her flowers and the many trips to Texas in the winter.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Dean Schantz of Elliott; three children, Kathryn LeBlanc and husband Richard of Hutto, Texas, Bob Schantz and wife Linda of Rockport, Texas, and Tom Schantz of Carter Lake; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Austin McClelland of Villisca; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial luncheon will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013, at the Elliott Community Building in Elliott with visitation to follow until 5 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Elliott Church of Christ.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
