Bertha M. “Betty” Confer, 73, of Red Oak, died Dec. 6, 2009, at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

Bertha Marie “Betty” Confer was born Dec. 6, 1936, in Omaha, Neb. the daughter of Aage and Gladys Reta (Olsen) Andersen. The family moved to Red Oak, in 1947 and Betty graduated from Red Oak High School in the class of 1954. She moved to Omaha and attended college and later worked as a medical secretary for a doctor. Betty married Jack Confer on Feb. 9, 1958, in Red Oak. She was a longtime member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church where she served as a member and treasurer of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the United Christian Women, and attended Community Bible Study.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brother: Arnold Andersen; and husband: Jack Confer. Survivors include her children: Kerry (Amy) Confer of Emerson; Keith (Colleen) Confer of Glenwood; Ken (Wendy) Confer of Stanton; and Kelli Confer of Red Oak; nine grandchildren; brothers: Robert (Rhoda) Andersen of Karnack, Texas; Gene (Jeannie) Andersen of Crossville, Tenn.; and Donald (Linda) Andersen of Oskaloosa; sisters: Rose (Keith) Lewis of Red Oak and Donna Mae (Frank) Blay of Twin Falls, Idaho; and brother-in-law: Glen (Carolyn) Confer of Essex.

Funeral services were held Dec. 11 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jan Phillips officiating. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Hawthorne United Methodist Church.
