Bill Wilson, 73

William Everett “Bill” Wilson, 73, Manhattan, Kan., died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at his home.  

Bill was born May 5, 1941, in Red Oak, the son of Frank and Enid (Snodgrass) Wilson and was baptized at the Emerson United Methodist Church. He graduated from Wales Lincoln High School in 1958, attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, and later attended school at Kirksville, graduating with a teaching degree.

He taught and coached in Topeka and later Dodge City, Kan., retiring after many years. He was the Executive Director of the Kansas Coaches Association for many years and was always very active with sports. Even in retirement, Bill was a timekeeper for many athletic events. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling, having toured most of the 50 states.  
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; brother-in-law, Steve Thompson; and niece, Joan Rinehart.

Survivors include his siblings, Frank Wilson of Carroll, Jeanne Wilson of Kearney, Neb., Rosemary Erickson and husband Dale of Atlantic and Betty Jo Bachand and husband Mike of Ft. Collins, Colo.; nieces and nephews, Calli Jo Bachand and Jason Bachand of Ft. Collins, Mike Thompson and wife Dawn of Lewis, David Thompson and wife Jennifer of Norwalk, Marcie Stephens and husband Craig of Pleasanton, Neb., Christopher Erickson of Anita, John Rinehart, Sr. of Carroll and Jackie Berry of Carroll; great-nieces and nephews, Devon and Bradden Thompson of Lewis, Cassie Stephens of Omaha, Terry Stephens of Pleasanton, John Rinehart, Jr. of Carroll, Jenny Schwery and husband David of Ames and Jill Woodward and husband Shaun of Carroll; great-great nieces, Savannah, Brianna and Emma Woodward of Carroll; many other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel in Red Oak. Visitation with the family will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Cremation will take place after the service and burial will take place at a later date at the Emerson Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Kansas Coaches Association.
