Blue Jays lose to Botna, EM

FARRAGUT — The Villisca Blue Jays boys basketball team lost Thursday night to the Nishnabotna Blue Devils, 64-45.

Nishnabotna led from the start and kept their lead for the game. Three Villisca basketball players scored 10 points or more against the Blue Devils.

Max Mauderly led the way with 13 and had a season high five steals.
Damon Sunderman and Travis Herzberg both scored 10 points in the loss. Sunderman was a rebound shy of finishing the game with a double-double.

Villisca was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Corner Conference basketball tournament by East Mills, last Tuesday in Essex.

Villisca lost to the Wolverines 52-33. The Blue Jays stuck close as they were down 8-7 at the end of the first quarter.

East Mills however took a big lead in the second quarter and would maintain that lead for the second half.

Herzberg finished the game as Villisca's leading scorer with 18 points. Herzberg was the only Villisca player to end the game with double-digit points.

Mauderly and Sunderman each scored four points. They were also the team leaders in rebounds as Sunderman had nine, while Mauderly grabbed six.

Villisca's has lost four of their last five games and are now 5-8 for the season. The Blue Jays were home Monday night to take on Red Oak. Results weren't available as of press time.

Tuesday night, Villisca is on the road to play Clarinda Academy. On Thursday, they're on the road again and will play Audubon. Villisca's week ends Friday when they head to College Springs to face South Page.
