Brown sentenced to 10 years in motor vehicle homicides

RED OAK — Karli Jo Brown was sentenced to 10 years in prison Monday afternoon for her part in the deaths of a 2 and 4-year-old, last Thanksgiving.

Brown pleaded guilty to the two counts of motor vehicular homicide in September, as part of an agreement with the Montgomery County Attorney.

Brown was charged with the homicides of Alex and Maliki Todd. The accident occurred Nov. 28, 2010 when Brown was driving southbound on Interstate 48 when according to the Iowa State Patrol, attempted to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone and her 2005 Nissan Ultima collided with a 2001 Kia Spectra driven by Nina McNeese.

State Patrol reported Brown had been driving 74 in a 55 MPH zone and was texting at the time.

In exchange, the charge of causing serious injury by motor vehicle was dropped.
