Cornelison, 42, arrested for Stanton beating
STANTON — A Red Oak man was arrested last Monday for an alleged beating incident near Stanton during late January.
After a month and a half in hiding, Jason Cornelison, 42, was taken into custody at the Montgomery County Courthouse when he showed up for an unrelated hearing on a charge for delivery of methamphetamine, according to Montgomery County Sheriff Joe Sampson.
“We knew he was going to show up for court Monday or else there would be a another warrant out for him,” Sampson said. “So one of the deputies there was able to grab him when he showed up.” Cornelison, along with Matthew Gusman, 30, was wanted for the assault of Cody Johnson, 21, who was airlifted to an Omaha hospital after being beaten with a blunt object.
Gusman’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The assault took place Jan. 28 at the intersection of O Ave. and 250th Street south of Stanton. A passerby called in the offense, stating a woman was getting kicked in the head, and two men, presumably Gusman and Cornelison, were striking a third man, Johnson.
Sampson declined to comment on the details of the incident, as it’s part of an ongoing investigation.
The woman did not report any injuries at the time, and Sampson said Johnson was released from the hospital the following day.
Cornelison is being held at the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center on a $20,000 bond.
