D.A. Kinser, 95

Dowaine A. “D.A.” Kinser, 95, Red Oak, died Sunday, May 11, 2014, at his home near Stennett.

D.A. was born Nov. 29, 1918, in Lewis, the son of Harvey and Bell (Salyers) Kinser. He was raised in the Lewis and Red Oak areas. When he got out of school, he started working on a traveling farming crew. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was in the 96th Division, Wire Section, serving in the Pacific Theater.

During this time, D.A. married Elaine McConnell Aug. 14, 1943, in Yakima, Wash. Upon his return from the war, D.A. started farming north of Red Oak. He eventually moved to his current farm near Stennett in 1953. He raised crops and always had a herd of Angus cows. He enjoyed hunting deer and raccoons, fishing and trapping, but his greatest hobby was just being a farmer. He was a longtime member of the VFW, currently in Villisca.  

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Elaine Kinser, June 17, 1989; and his brother, L.E. Kinser.

Survivors include his children, Sandra Wynne and husband Dan of Callahan, Fla., Butch Kinser and wife Jan of Stanton, Caroline Farlin and fiance Michael Schipull of Clarinda, Barbara Jean Copeland and husband Jim of Clarinda and Darwin Kinser and wife Connie of Red Oak; 13 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. Memorials are suggested to the Stratton United Methodist Church or the Heartland Hospice.
