Daniel J. Huston, 50

Daniel J. Huston, 50, of Hastings, passed away peacefully after an extended illness Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
Daniel Joseph Huston, the son of R.C. “Mike” and Betty (Rigby) Huston was born Dec. 12, 1959, in Ames. Dan lived his early years in Rockwell City, when in 1973 the family moved to Red Oak. He graduated from Red Oak High School in l978. While in high school, Dan was active in many sports and a member of the National Honor Society. Dan attended Iowa State University at Ames. He returned to Red Oak and worked several years for H. Gene McKeown Associates. Dan was united in marriage to Kim M. Kruse on Aug. 19, 1989, in Lincoln, Neb. For the past 15 years, Dan worked for R.D. Blue Construction Company as an estimator. Dan and Kim made the Emerson-Hastings area their home for many years. He was a member of the Emerson First Baptist Church and served on the Christian Education Board. Dan was also a board member of EMAYS and coached many young athletes, including his own children. He was a simple man who cared deeply for his wife, children and family.
Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents; nephew: Lee Huston and sister-in-law: Jennifer Kruse.
Dan is survived by his wife: Kim M. Huston of rural Hastings; children: Jacob and Claire Huston of the home; father and mother: Dr. R.C. “Mike” and Betty Huston of Red Oak; brothers: Dr. Pat and Cindy Huston of Red Oak, and Dr. Mike and Jackie Huston of Jasper, Fla.; sisters: Kim Smith of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. and Cathy and Chris Nelson of Atlantic; nieces and nephews: Este and  Abby Huston; Chad Hill; Kyle and Ben Nelson; Katie, Libby and Ben Massey; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Rinehart and Alice Kruse of Lincoln, Neb.;  and sister-in-law: Julie and Dr. John Massey of Lincoln, Neb.; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak. Burial was in the Emerson Cemetery in Emerson with Rev. Larry Pries officiating.
