Donald Brokaw, 81

Donald Brokaw, 81, from Corning, died Aug. 4, 2009, at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning.

Donald was born Dec. 3, 1927, in rural Adams County, to Leland Stanford Brokaw and Lucille Grace (Kempton). Donald attended Corning High School and graduated with the Class of 1946. Donald worked for the Department of Transportation Highway Commission for 17 years. He also worked at the Red Star Mill.

Donald married Joanna Simpson Jan. 27, 1979, at Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Donald is preceded in death by: his parents, brother, Stanley Brokaw; and sister, Rowena Hurd.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna Brokaw of Corning; sons: Greg Brokaw of Prescott, Patrick (Sharon) Simpson of Burkitsville, Conn.; daughters: Christine O’Clair of Monticello, Angela (Ron) White of Creston, Delores (Pete) Soda of Omaha, Neb., Lynda (Billy Gene) Shuler of Corning; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Brokaw.

Funeral services were held Aug. 8 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Corning with Pastor Phillip Ritter officiating. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Corning.
