Dorothy E. Gridley, 90

Dorothy E. Gridley, 90, Villisca, died Dec. 9, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Villisca.
Dorothy was born March 7, 1923, two miles west of Grant, the daughter of Ralph and Louise (Lindner) Vetter. Dorothy graduated from Grant High School in 1940.

She married Kenneth Gridley Jan. 2, 1943, in Maryville, Mo. To this union two children were born, Sharon and Alan.  

Dorothy worked alongside Kenneth on the farm and then later clerked auctions and was secretary for their real estate business. She was a member of the Grant American Legion Auxiliary for more than 60 years, a 4-H club leader for many years and an active member of the Pilot Grove Methodist Church and the Villisca United Methodist Church. Dorothy enjoyed bowling, golfing and spending time with her family and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Kenneth Gridley May 11, 2004; sisters, Loretta Barr and Maxine Orstad; and brother, Merlin Vetter.

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sharon Andrews and husband Ed of Grant City, Mo.; a son, Alan Gridley of Villisca; four grandchildren, Jodi Ravenscraft and husband Brent of Parkville, Mo., Trudy Swenson and husband Steve of Villisca, Todd Andrews and wife Amy of Parkville, and Mindy Gridley-Laycock and husband Rob of Aurora, Colo.; six great-grandchildren, Jamie and Luke Ravenscraft, Mara and Grant Andrews, Cole Swenson and Jackson Gridley.  

Funeral services were 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the Villisca United Methodist Church with Rev. Gordon Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Villisca Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Villisca United Methodist Church or the Villisca Good Samaritan Society.
