Dorothy M. Olson, 102

Dorothy M. Olson, 102, of Red Oak, died on April 9, 2009, at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center.

Dorothy Marie Olson was born Feb. 13, 1907, in Page County, the daughter of Frank and Augusta (Johnson) Hamman. Dorothy was united in marriage to Frank Olson on Sept. 8, 1935, at the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman.

They lived all of their married life in Page County, where they farmed. Frank passed away in 1988 and Dorothy moved to Acorn Acres in Red Oak where she lived until three years ago when she moved to Red Oak Rehab and Care Center. Dorothy was very involved with many activities at the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman including the Dorcas Program Committee and Serving Committee, Lutheran Welfare Representative, Foreign Missions Committee, Missionary for a Day Committee, Librarian and Lutheran Women’s Secretary, Good Cheer Committee, Kitchen Committee, Sales Committee, Outreach Committee, Nominating Committee, Flowers and Memorials Secretary, Church School Staff, Christian Action Committee, Auditing Committee, and ELCA. Dorothy also volunteered for many years at both nursing homes in Red Oak.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband: Frank Olson; sisters: Grace Danielson and Florence Carlson; brothers: Earny, George, and Ralph Hamman.

Survivors include her sister: Gladys Gates of Red Oak; sister-in-law: Elaine Hamman of Grinnell.

Funeral services were held on April 11 at the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman. Burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Nyman. Memorials are suggested to the Fremont Lutheran Church.
