Eleanor Freed, 99

Eleanor M. Freed, 99, Red Oak, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak.

Eleanor Martha Freed, daughter of Albin and Rosetta (Lofgren) Carlson was born May 2, 1914, near Elliott. Eleanor was baptized near Elliott at the Cramer Chapel. She attended school in Cass County near Griswold.

Eleanor married Eric “Uno” Freed Feb. 11, 1937, in Griswold. For 48 years, they made their home on their farm in the Nyman community.

Eleanor had been a member of the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman since 1937. She taught Sunday school, was a leader for Junior Mission band, sang in the choir and ladies chorus, and was active in the ladies group, serving as chairperson for WELCA. Eleanor also enjoyed making banners and baptismal napkins for the church. She loved music and spending time with family and friends. Following her husband’s death in 1985, Eleanor moved to Red Oak.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Uno Jan. 9, 1985; seven sisters and one brother.

Eleanor is survived by two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Freed of Redding and Maudeline Carlson of Clarinda; four nephews, seven nieces, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at the Fremont Lutheran Church, Nyman.
Burial was Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, with Rev. Jerry Lamb officiating.
